The term SIRIX is a conglomerate of Stoll and IRIX.
The SGI computers came preinstalled with a software suite for designing knit-ware that could be produced by Stoll knitting machines.
The data format underlying the CAD/CAM software is Sintral – a domain specific programming language, used for controlling Stoll knitting machines. Those programs can either be transmitted online or saved to a floppy disk, which is then inserted into the knitting machine.
Even though SGI and IRIX may be considered ancient technology in the computer industry, SIRIX it is still widely used in the textile domain.
